Seitokai no Ichizon – 09
December 1, 2009 at 10:24 pm | In Anime, Seitokai no Ichizon | Leave a CommentThe topic of discussion in Kurimu’s latest Seitokai meeting centers around reading. Kurimu is proud to declare that she rotates between stories like “The Tortoise and the Hare”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, and the most challenging “Snow White”. Minatsu enjoys passionate hot-blooded shounen fighting manga, and a suspicious black book filled with names of criminals which she borrowed from Chizuru, whom you would remember has this invisible apple-eating being around her. Ken tries to skip BL fangirl Mafuyu, but ends up in a heated debate as Mafuyu claims that BL is her guide to understanding guys, like what harem series are to Ken. Moving on, Ken is too scared to question Chizuru, who is reading “The Top Ten Ways to Get Rid of An Annoying Person Immediately” and begs for forgiveness instantly. Chizuru reveals that she is really interesting in a fortune-telling book, which she used as a way to get Kurimu jealous under the pretense of holding Ken’s hand to tell his love luck. Walking out of the room, Chizuru softly thanks Ken, who then notices a letter left on the table.
The letter hints of a broken friendship between the writer and the recipient as the reader apologises for hurting the other person on purpose. Seeing as how neither Kurimu, Minatsu, nor Mafuyu knows the writer, the Seitokai members guessed correctly that it must have had been addressed to Chizuru. The letter goes on to talk about how the writer Kanade had been jealous and uneasy when Chizuru began making friends with other people, driving her to do anything to make Chizuru lonely again so as to keep her by her side. Realising how wrong she was then, Kanade and Chizuru meets up again, where Chizuru explains that her scars have been healed by everyone in the Seitokai, even though she had also once thought they would never disappear. Meanwhile, back at the Seitokai room, everyone is too scared of Chizuru’s wrath after reading her private letter, but they fail to cover it up when Chizuru returns. Chizuru assures them that she had left it there for them to read, and holding Ken’s hand again, she asks if Ken’s wounds have healed as well.
Kämpfer – 09
December 1, 2009 at 12:18 am | In Anime, Kämpfer | 2 CommentsAkane finally gets her turn to go on a date with Natsuru… or so she thought until Mikoto, Shizuku and Sakura tag along uninvited as most of the cast did previously. Natsuru remains oblivious to the extra hot Shizuku in swimsuit (and Akane, and Mikoto) and has eyes only for plain Sakura, who is constantly wondering about the female Natsuru. Natsuru transforms into his female form with Shizuku’s help, only to have Sakura speak ill of his male form in front of him (YES! GO SaKURA GO!).
Later in the day, Shizuku sends Natsuru out alone, and he encounters three new white Kämpfers who attacked him. Akane’s well-timed arrival saved Natsuru, and Shizuku’s appearance gave the Kämpfers second thoughts, resulting in them retreating for the day. Natsuru learns that Mikoto is with Sakura and assumes that she is acting as a bodyguard, but Shizuku states to herself that it is more of an observer role to check on Sakura. At night, Natsuru declares himself violated at a party with everyone when Shizuku stole a french kiss from him in plain view of all the girls, much of the disapproval of Mikoto and Akane (and the rest of the blogsphere. DAMN LUCKY BASTARD NATSURU!!!). After the incident, Sakura lures Natsuru outside and heads off with just the both of them.
Letter Bee – 09
November 30, 2009 at 1:03 am | In Anime, Tegami Bachi | Leave a CommentSylvette laments over how she has always only wanted her brother by her side as Gauche talked about how he would definitely become a Head Bee and heal her legs in the past when Lag bursts into her place. Realising that Sylvette is actually very lonely despite her strong front in the previous episode, Lag’s Spirit Amber self-activates, prompting Lag to fire his Shindan into the gun that Gauche left behind. Every moment of his memories is filled with his love and concern for his sister as he fights tough Gaichuus in risky battles as part of his job. To speed up his advancement progress, he even requests to take on more work than the typical Letter Bee even when he is obviously overworked, refusing to rest and skipping meals. This causes Aria to be worried about him because at the rate he is going, he might lose his heart very fast as well.
The latest memory shows Gauche being stalked by a couple of suspicious guys, but he manages to fool them and retrieves his new gun for the Akatsuki journey. The weapon shop owner also warns him that there has been an anti-government organisation “Reverse” that targets Letter Bees on the streets lately. He tries to make a bid for Gauche’s old Nocturne, but Gauche refuses on the basis that it is important to him. He is later seen asking Sylvette to give the gun to his dear friend from Yodoka, namely Lag Seeing. Lag tries to reach out to Gauche in the memory fragments, but the images fade away. Weeping, he tells Sylvette not to cry, and that he swears he will look for Gauche and bring him back. She then reveals that in actuality, she has always wanted to meet Lag, but was scared because her memories of Gauche would then resurface again. On his way to the Bee Hive, Lag thanks Niche for her words previously. In front of the Letter Bees, Largo declares Lag to be a new Letter Bee, but the latter refutes his assumption that Lag has realised his dream. Instead, remembering Gauche, Lag announces that his dream is to deliver as many people’s precious hearts as possible and to achieve that, he aims to be a Head Bee.
Yatterman the Live Action
November 28, 2009 at 11:17 pm | In Movie | Leave a CommentI’m not sure how many people would have heard of this 1977 anime series Yatterman, but I know I certainly haven’t, seeing as how it was broadcasted over 10 years before I even existed. Even so, I decided to check out the 2009 live action remake without knowing what I would be getting myself into. Note that this review is solely focused on just the movie.
Plot summary from ANN (since I’m too lazy to write one myself):
Gan, the only son of the owner of Takada Toy Shop and his girlfriend Ai serve together as Yatterman, the superhero that (along with their mecha dog Yatter-wan) fight the evil Doronbow gang, headed by the sexy Doronjo and her wacky henchmen Boyacki and Tonzura. When the daughter of an explorer brings one of four pieces of the mysterious Skull Stone to them, they must find the other pieces before the Doronbow gang does. The evil force behind the gang, the mysterious Skullobey, wants to use it to steal the world.
To Aru Kagaku no Railgun – 09
November 28, 2009 at 6:54 pm | In Anime, To Aru Kagaku no Railgun | 2 CommentsKuroko and Mikoto make a request to Harumi for her help in researching on the effects of the Level Upper due to her expertise in the area. Saten and Uiharu join them in the cafe, and Saten was about to show off her music player when she hears the topic that they are discussing. She hesitates when Kuroko states that there might be possible side effects to the Level Upper, and that the users have a high tendency to turn to crimes. Mikoto, who notices that Saten has been acting abnormally, talks to her about it after everyone else have left. Apparently when Saten was young, she went against her parents in order to pursue her dream of being an ability user, and who would have known that in the end, she turns out to be a Level 0.
The next day, while worrying over whether to use the Level Upper, Saten stumbles upon a group of thugs trying to extort money out of a potential buyer. She jumps in to his defense, knowing that she does not have the means to stop them. Just as she was about to get attacked, Kuroko, who has been investigating possible Level Upper trading locations, appears and takes out 2 of the thugs easily. However, the final guy proves to be too much for her. With her attacks useless, Kuroko is forced to retreat into an abandoned building, which she destroyed in order to defeat the optical illusion user. He then reveals that the Level Upper is actually a song. Meanwhile, assured of Kuroko’s safety, Saten leaves the scene, thinking about how Kuroko and her are both alike, yet vastly different due to just one aspect, and discloses the fact that she is in possession of a Level Upper.
