Kimi ni Todoke – 01
October 9, 2009 at 1:06 am | In Anime, Kimi ni Todoke | 5 CommentsMamiko’s voice is really distinctive.
Ok, that’s not really the point.
Seeing how Sawako alternates between her normal and scary forms remind me of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge, which, btw, I really enjoyed. As like all other romance series, it is obvious that Sawako and Kazehaya are meant for each other. My initial guess is that this might evolve into a comedy romance series (due to the YNSH resemblance), but it seems like it will be a serious story, made light-hearted by the art, about their blossoming love and how Sawako changes and be more sociable.
I do agree with some reviews on how the pace in the first episode seems a tad rushed. Other than that, Kimi ni Todoke looks like it will be a really great romance series (gee, when was the last good romance series produced?) and I love the unique art style in the show. My impression of Production I.G is usually high-quality CG and action-based series, such as GitS: SAC, and Le Chevalier D’Eon. Nonetheless, Tokyo Marble Chocolate is proof that Production I.G can excel in character development and emotions, and I am highly anticipating how Kimi no Todoke would turn out.

Kimi ni Todoke reminded me of Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge as well, although I didn’t terribly enjoy the latter.

Really? Care to share that it was about Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge that turned you off? I do admit that when I look back at it now, the character designs for the guys look kind of awkward.

Sunako doesn’t change as much as I’d hoped she would be the end of the anime. Also, I didn’t really enjoy what I felt was an overuse of chibi form on Sunako. The last reason is that I was probably looking for a more serious anime at the time.

Ah yes, it is a comedy series, not for serious watching like Kimi ni Todoke is. I found it quite hilarious personally. ^_^
